2015 was the first year that Empty Bowls was held in a different location. From its inception in 2012, Empty Bowls has been held at UW-Marshfield/Wood County. In 2014 (the third annual Empty Bowls), the event was so popular that we knew we had to expand and leave the University. Hotel Marshfield (2700 S. Central Ave) has graciously agreed to be the new home for the annual Empty Bowls event.

What is Empty Bowls?

A fundraising event to benefit Soup Or Socks, Marshfield Area Empty bowls is being held on Saturday, March 14th, 2020 from 11 am – 2 pm at Hotel Marshfield in the ballroom. Each $10 admission ticket buys you a bowl of soup as well as a handmade bowl to take home with you – as a reminder that somewhere, someone has an empty bowl. There are activities for children at the tables, raffle prizes (donated by local businesses), and Empty Bowls merchandise available for purchase.

Where do the proceeds go?

All proceeds of the Marshfield Area Empty Bowls event go directly to Soup Or Socks.  Soup Or Socks (SOS) is a food pantry and clothes closet – a volunteer-run organization dedicated to providing clothes and/or food, at no charge, for those in need throughout the greater Marshfield area. SOS does not discriminate on the basis of political affiliation, race, color, national origin, sex, age, religious creed or disability. The non-profit is located in First Presbyterian Church (200 S. Lincoln Ave, Marshfield). SOS serves an average of 1,800 people per year for food and clothing. How it works: each household receives enough food to create 3 meals a day for 5 days, for each member of the family. For an average family of 4, the estimated cost is $205. All of the money raised from Empty Bowls is used to purchase perishable items such as eggs, milk, cheese, and fruits and vegetables.
